The Korean Chestnut (Castanea crenata) is a magnificent tree that combines beauty, productivity, and resilience all in one package.

Here at Humble Abode Nursery, we’re absolutely nuts about these trees, and for good reason! The Korean Chestnut grows into a stunning specimen, reaching heights of around 30 feet with a broad, rounded canopy that offers dappled shade in summer and a golden spectacle in fall. But the real magic happens when those spiky burrs start dropping their treasure – large, sweet chestnuts that’ll have you dreaming up new recipes all season long!

Korean Chestnuts are known for their resistance to chestnut blight, making them a reliable choice for long-term food production. Plus, they start bearing nuts at a younger age than many other chestnut species. 

Growing these beauties is surprisingly straightforward. They thrive in full sun and prefer well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Once established, they’re relatively drought-tolerant and low-maintenance. Just make sure to give them plenty of space to spread their roots and branches. A little mulch and occasional watering during dry spells will keep them happy and productive for years to come.

Korean Chestnuts are hardy in USDA zones 4-8, adapting well to a wide range of climates. They need cross-pollination, so plant two or more trees to ensure a bountiful harvest. Trust me, you’ll want as many of these delicious nuts as you can get!
