Pecan trees are a prized addition to any homestead, offering both valuable nuts and stately beauty. These long-lived giants of the orchard are perfect for permaculturists, homesteaders, and gardeners looking to enhance their property with a productive, low-maintenance crop. A mature pecan tree raining down nuts year after year is truly something epic to behold.Â
Our nursery offers bare-root Northern Pecan trees, chosen for their adaptability, disease resistance, and nut quality. Mature pecan trees can reach impressive heights of 70-100 feet with a spread of 40-75 feet, making them suitable for larger properties. Their distinctive compound leaves provide dappled shade in summer, while fall brings a harvest of nutrient-rich nuts.
Growing Conditions and Care:
Pecan trees thrive in full sun and require deep, well-drained soil. They prefer slightly acidic to neutral pH levels (6.0-7.0). These trees have extensive root systems, so proper spacing is crucial for optimal growth and production.
Hardiness and Pollination:
Our pecan varieties are suitable for USDA hardiness zones 5-9, with some cultivars showing better cold tolerance. Though the trees themselves can be quite hardy, the nuts require quite a bit of heat to ripen and may not have time in their northernmost range. Plant at least 2 for cross-pollination.
Humble Abode Nursery Advantage:
Our bare-root pecan trees are grown using sustainable practices that encourage robust root development and overall tree health. We ship during the dormant season to ensure successful transplanting. Each tree undergoes careful inspection before shipping to guarantee quality.
By choosing our bare-root pecan trees, you’re investing in a legacy crop that will provide bountiful harvests and enhance your landscape for generations to come.
