Plums: A Rainbow of Flavors in Your Orchard!
(Prunus spp.)
Imagine biting into a juicy plum, its sweet flavor exploding in your mouth. From deep purple to golden yellow, plums come in a rainbow of colors and flavors. Whether you prefer them fresh, in preserves, or baked into delicious desserts, plums are a fruit-lover’s dream. A perfectly ripe homegrown plum is a treat that makes you happy to be alive, and it’s an experience that you can’t’ buy in a store.
Plum trees are also a beautiful addition to any landscape. In spring, they’re covered in delicate white blossoms, creating a stunning display. Their size makes them perfect as part of a diverse orchard.
Growing plums is rewarding and relatively easy. These adaptable trees prefer full sun and well-drained soil. They’re faster to bear fruit than many other fruit trees, often producing within 2 years of planting.
Plums are hardy in USDA zones 3-9, depending on the variety. I highly recommend using an American Plum seedling as a pollinator for our hybrid plums. Planting at least two different varieties can ensure better pollination and give you a longer harvest season with diverse flavors.
At Humble Abode Nursery, we grow mainly I mainly grow hybrid plums, which are mostly crosses between Japanese plums and American plums, and are generally more suited to growing in the Northeast, more cold hardy and disease resistant than pure European or Japanese Plums.
Why choose our plums? We grow our trees using sustainable practices, focusing on soil health and natural pest management. This means you get robust trees that establish quickly and produce abundantly.
Ready to add some plum-tastic flavor to your homestead? Plant a plum tree (or two!) and enjoy years of delicious, colorful harvests!
