Goji (Lycium barbarum): Superfood Berry

Goji, also known as wolfberry, is a deciduous woody shrub renowned for its nutrient-dense berries. Native to Asia, this hardy plant has gained popularity worldwide as a “superfood.”

Growing 3-6 feet tall, goji plants have long, flexible branches and small, light green leaves. They produce small purple flowers in late spring, followed by bright red, oblong berries that ripen from late summer through fall.

Goji berries are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They can be eaten fresh, dried, or used in teas and supplements. The young leaves are also edible and used in some cuisines.

These shrubs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. They do not grow well in acidic soil. Add lime if your soil is acidic. They’re hardy in USDA zones 5-9 and are notably drought-tolerant once established. Goji plants are self-fertile and can start producing fruit within 2-3 years.

At Humble Abode Nursery, we offer bare-root goji plants selected for productivity and flavor. Our stock is grown using sustainable practices to ensure healthy, vigorous specimens.

Consider adding goji to your garden for its nutritional benefits, ornamental value, and ability to thrive in various conditions.
